AbdulRaheem, Oloyede, Akanji, others bag UNILORIN Registry awards

Two former Vice Chancellors of the University of Ilorin, Prof. Shuaibu Oba AbdulRaheem, OFR; and Prof. Is-haq Olanrewaju Oloyede, CON, were last Tuesday (April 30, 2021) conferred with  awards of excellence by the Registry Department of the University in appreciation of their contributions.

The award presentations which were part of the highlights of the 4th Registry Seminar of the University, attracted dignitaries from far and near including the Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN.

Others who were honoured at the event were a former Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Minna,who is also the pioneer Vice Chancellor of Al-Hikmah University, Ilorin, Prof. Musibau Adewunmi Akanji, and three former Registrars of the University of Ilorin, Alhaji Muritala Tunde Balogun, Mr Emmanuel Dada Obafemi and Dr Modupe Folaranmi Olowoleni, as well as an Ilorin-based entrepreneur, Alhaji Abdulganiy Erinjogunola.

In his address, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Wahab Egbewole, SAN, commended the Registry Department for its dedication and commitment to excellence.

He highlighted the Department’s crucial role in the University’s smooth operations and its contribution to the achievements recorded by the University.

Speaking on “Mentoring and Succession Planning in the University”, the Registrar of the Federal University, Lokoja, Dr Rebecca Okojie, noted that in the face of the current global economic realities and dwindling government funding, the lines are blurring between public and private universities.

She added that “universities, especially public ones, must emplace best practice in succession planning as a survival strategy for growth and sustainability”.

In his own lecture, titled “Record Management: Registry As An Institutional Memory”, the immediate past Registrar of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, Dr Bola Adekola, submitted that the Registry plays a pivotal role in record management and serves as the custodian of institutional memories within universities.
