UNILORIN rewards staff’s excellence in research

No fewer than 31 staff members of the University of Ilorin were recently recognised and rewarded by the authorities of the institution for their various fascinating research outputs.

Speaking at a recent event to celebrate the concerned staff members, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, expressed the determination of his administration to always reward excellence among the staff members of the University.    

The Vice Chancellor, who was delighted with the productivity of the awardees, appreciated the dedication and hard work exhibited by them, which ensured the presence of the University in high-quality research outlets. He pointed out that the honourees demonstrated excellence by publishing in First Quartile (Q1) Journals between October 2020 and October 2023.

As a token of appreciation of the contributions of the honourees, the Vice Chancellor said that each of the publications will be rewarded with ₦50,000 as a show of the University’s commitment to promoting a culture of excellence in research and scholarship.

The Vice Chancellor pointed out that the initiative underscored the University’s commitment to recognising the invaluable contributions of its staff members to the advancement of knowledge in their respective fields.

The award-winning  researchers, who are from different Faculties and Departments and with varied number of publications, included lecturers from the Department of Chemical Engineering such as Dr George Adewale Adeniyi, who has eight articles; Dr Mary Adejoke Ajala, one article; and Dr Esther Olubunmi Babatunde, who has two articles to her credit. Also from the same Department of Chemical Engineering are Dr Ajala Elijah Olawale, who has two articles;and Dr Tunmise Latifat Adewoye, with one article;  Dr Hambali H. Umar as well as Dr Aderibigbe Fatai Alade, both of whom have two articles each.

Also on the list of the awardees are Dr Orosun Muyiwa Michael  of the Department of Physics, who has seven articles; Dr Hussein Kehinde Okoro of the Department of Industrial Chemistry who recorded three articles; Dr Wasiu Olanrewaju Raji of the Department of Geophysics, who has four articles and Dr Omoniyi Peter Olorunleke of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, who has one article to his credit.

From the Department of Communication Sciences are Dr Naeem Atanda Balogun, Dr Mudathir Okuwaseyi Oloyede and Dr Rafiat Ajibade Oyekunle with one article each. Two of the honourees  from the Department of Religions are Prof. Oyeronke Olademo and Dr AbdulGafar Olawale Fahm with each of them contributing one article. The Department of Chemistry also produced two of the awardees in Prof. Samson Olatunji Owalude, who has one article; and Dr Atolani Olubunmi, who has four articles to his credit.

Others are Dr Timothy Olusegun Olanrewaju and Dr Saeed Abioye Bello of the Department of Medicine and Physics, respectively, who contributed one article each.

Prof. Mathew Olatunji Kolawole of the Department of Microbiology also made the list with one article while Dr David Adedayo Animasaun and Dr Ogunkunle Clement Oluseye, both of the Department of Plant Biology, recorded two articles each.
